ads ENGINEERS specializes in energy modeling,  commissioning, energy audits, and LEED services.  Mr. Brian Burke, a LEED accredited Architectural Engineer and a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP), is the director of Sustainable Services.

ads ENGINEERS has aided Owners in achieving a savings of over $3 million dollars in annual operating costs. Much of this has been achieved through the NYSERDA “New Construction Program”.  ads ENGINEERS has worked extensively with this program as a technical assistance provider which evaluates building performance and provides incentives to Owners based on the demand and kilowatt-hour savings.

As a member of the United States Green Building Councilads ENGINEERS is constantly working to promote buildings that are environmentally sound, energy efficient, and comfortable places to live and work.

LEED Services

ads ENGINEERS has been involved with green buildings since the inception of the movement. The firm is a member of the USGBC with many of its employees LEED Accredited Professionals.

Early in the design, we typically organize and facilitate a one-day workshop or charrette with the design team to evaluate a project’s potential to achieve a LEED rating. The result of the workshop is an estimate of potential LEED credits and possible rating the project can achieve by incorporating specific design strategies.

Starting at the Schematic Phase, a preliminary computerized energy model is prepared to generate energy consumption estimates for alternate mechanical systems and to begin to size up the number of credits that can be achieved that can be under the Energy and Atmosphere LEED category.

Design team members are educated on various credit requirements and they are assisted with template submittal process. Design team responsibilities are organized as they relate to obtaining a LEED rating. LEED check-lists are maintained and coordinated among the Owner and all consultants.

Assistance is provided to architects and spec writers in developing specifications for construction materials with low VOCs and high recycled content, for example. Contractor submittals are also reviewed to see that such materials are installed as specified.

ads ENGINEERS has provided LEED services for the following programs: museums, hi-rise residential buildings, hotels, performance spaces, industrial facilities, and commercial offices for new construction projects, core and shell interior design projects, LEED for schools, and existing buildings.

Energy Audits

ads ENGINEERS has been performing energy audits and energy studies since the firm’s inception in 1979. As a practicing design firm, ads ENGINEERS proposes system modifications and upgrades that are practical and take into consideration the difficulties of working in an existing and occupied building. This expertise, coupled with the knowledge of energy efficient design, has enabled ads ENGINEERS to provide effective energy strategies to those building owners seeking to reduce their overall energy consumption.

These strategies can best be accomplished through a whole building Energy Audit. ads ENGINEERS, through the sustainable services group, has provided ASHRAE Level II and Level III energy audits for the followings building sectors: hotels, residential buildings, museums, and commercial offices. The company has also generated energy audit reports to support funding and financial incentives for clients through the NYSERDA Existing Building and Flextech programs.

Energy Modeling

ads ENGINEERS has offered energy modeling services for a wide variety of clients over the last several years.  These models have been used for project design decision making, Level III Energy audits, LEED submissions, Local Law 86 compliance, and energy code compliance.  Energy models for new and existing buildings have been completed for the following building types: commercial office buildings, commercial fit out spaces, hotels, industrial process facilities-specialty in refrigeration, laboratories-including vivariums, libraries, residential buildings, schools, sports facilities, supermarkets, theaters, and universities.

Local Law 87

New York City has passed sweeping energy conservation legislation known as Local Law 87. This law aims to reduce energy use and energy costs in existing buildings. The law mandates that over the next ten years existing buildings over 50,000 SF and multiple condominium buildings over 100,000 SF must undergo an energy audit and retro-commissioning process and file an energy efficiency report with the City. The heart of the process is the performance of an energy audit and retro-commissioning of the building to identify low cost operational changes and corrective measures that can reduce energy costs. ads ENGINEERS is prepared to assist building owners in developing and implementing a program reflecting these City mandates.

Con Edison Market Partner Network, Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Program

ads ENGINEERS is a member of the Con Edison Market Partner Network, Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Program, due to ads ENGINEERS‘ extensive experience in energy audits and expertise in retrofit design strategies. This Coned program provides financial incentives to existing building owners for conducting energy audits and implementing energy efficient retrofit strategies.
